F86 Sabre comes to Headcorn International Airshow

The Iconic F-86 Sabre Is Coming to Headcorn International Airshow 2026

One of the most legendary jet fighters in aviation history is set to thunder over the Kent countryside this summer. Mistral Warbirds' Canadair CL-13 Sabre Mk6 will be making an appearance at the inaugural Headcorn International Airshow, taking place 27–28 June 2026 at Headcorn Aerodrome (EGKH), Kent.

Meet the F-86 Sabre Mk6: Europe's Only Flying Example

The Mistral Warbirds F-86 Sabre is the only example currently flying in Europe. This particular airframe is a Canadair CL-13 Sabre Mk6 - the last variant ever built - powered by a mighty Orenda 14 engine delivering 7,400 lbs of thrust. The Mk6 is widely regarded as the finest Sabre variant produced worldwide.

Originally built for the Luftwaffe, this Sabre spent 20 years in Germany between 1958 and 1978 before eventually making its way to the United States. Since 2019, it has been operated by Mistral Warbirds from their maintenance facility at Avignon Airport (LFMV) in southern France.

From the Korean War to the Kent Skies

The F-86 Sabre's legendary dogfights with the MiG-15 during the Korean War remain a defining chapter in the history of air combat. Today, only a small number of examples remain airworthy worldwide.

What to Expect in the Sky

At Headcorn's intimate grass aerodrome, expect a close-quarters, visceral display of jet power in a way that simply isn't possible at larger venues.

The display is flown by Frédéric Akary, who brings over 17,000 flight hours, ATPL licences, Boeing 777 Captain credentials, and aerobatic airshow experience dating back to 1988.

A Bold New Chapter for a Historic Airfield

The Headcorn International Airshow is the aerodrome's most ambitious project yet — relaunching what was formerly the Battle of Britain Airshow as a broader festival featuring civilian aerobatics, modern classics, and a refreshed ground show, while keeping the warbird DNA that made Headcorn beloved.

Headcorn Aerodrome is located approximately 15 minutes south of Junction 8 of the M20, and has its own railway station on the London Charing Cross to Ashford International line.
