North American P-51D Mustang — Moonbeam McSwine

Moonbeam McSwine is a North American P-51D Mustang, one of the most effective long-range escort fighters of the Second World War and a defining aircraft of the United States Army Air Forces in the European Theatre.

This aircraft is presented in the markings associated with Captain William T. Whisner, a triple ace credited with 15½ aerial victories during the Second World War. Whisner flew with the 487th Fighter Squadron, 352nd Fighter Group, famously known as the “Blue-Nosed Bastards of Bodney”.

The P-51D combined speed, range and high-altitude performance, allowing Allied bomber formations to be escorted deep into occupied Europe. Powered by the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, the Mustang became one of the most recognisable and successful fighter aircraft of the conflict.

Moonbeam McSwine represents this pivotal period in air combat history and is a regular participant on the UK airshow circuit, offering audiences the opportunity to see a classic wartime fighter displayed in authentic markings.
