PIPER J-3C-65 CUB

SOVIET SPITFIRE
She left Castle Bromwich in August 1944 and shipped to Murmansk. One of 1,328 Spitfires sent to Russia under Lend-Lease. On 18 May 1945 another Spitfire cut off her tail in a training dogfight. Her pilot bailed out and walked away. She had flown 18 hours and 29 minutes. She lay in the tundra for fifty years. A farmer pulled her out in 1997. She flew again in 2020. The only Spitfire in Russian markings in the West. The only airworthy survivor flown by the Soviet Air Force.
